Trail Report - (406)862-7669

Reported on 08-26-2008 at 10:20 by Donnie
Recent rains have really packed down all the trails, especially the Runaway Train. Not only does it sport runaway awesomeness, but it is flaunting runaway popularity as well. Just check out these quotes:

"It's awesome." --Donnie Clapp, 28--
"Yeah." --Walter Clapp, 21--
"Totally." --Josh Knight, 100--

And now, for the actual trail report, written by someone more knowledgeable but slightly less funny than Donnie:

Runaway Train is open! The Grand Opening on Saturday was a huge success, with riders from as far away as Bozeman and Calgary coming over to check out the new trail. New trail conditions exist and ridership is heavy, so please use caution while riding the Train. Expect trail crews to be “conducting” some work on the lower sections on 8/19. The riding surface is loose and dusty, but the forecasted rain should help immensely with that problem. Be smart and courteous – which includes staying off the Danny On trail.

3 sections of the Summit Trail have been rebuilt in the past week, with one switchback becoming a berm and 3 washouts being reconditioned. The trail is riding great (although a bit dusty), but keep you eyes peeled for these new soft spots in the lower 1.5 miles. As always, ride smart on the Summit Trail – it is a two-way trail where downhill riders need to yield to uphill traffic. Stop and pick some huckleberries around 5,500 feet – you won’t be disappointed! Look for trail crews to be doing some minor reconstruction in the lower half (below the top of the Swift Creek Express) throughout the next week.

All XC trails are open and riding fast. Wolverine is getting a bit loose so keep your eyes up while riding this lower mountain classic.

The Danny On is still the Danny On and is the same as always – packed with people, incredible views, huckleberries, and even wildlife. Chair 1 (aka, the BMX) still goes to the summit of Big Mountain so come on up, hike the Danny On, and enjoy a ride down on us. But remember – no pets on the chairlift!

Oh, and one more huge thing:
